The Blindspot Oracle: A Free Reading

We wanted to showcase Teal's Blind Spot Oracle Deck by giving you a peek inside, and also providing you with a free reading to get a feel for it.

A blind spot is any area where your awareness is obscured.
Uncovering your blind spots may feel uncomfortable, yet it’s essential for conscious creation. The first step is simple: be willing to look.

The deck features 78 Sigils - seals or symbols channeled by Teal which help facilitate your growth and expansion. Each one of these can influence you, like a teacher, in discovering your blind spots, and each one has a super accessible name, ranging from "Your Fear" to "Denial" to "What You Really Want and Need." The more you use the deck, the more your relationship with these potent sources of insight and energy will deepen. To use the deck, simply ask for clarity on a specific issue, draw a Sigil card, then look up the card in the guidebook and read the description.

Feel into your intention and see which card you're drawn to most. An example of an intention could be: “What am I avoiding in my life right now that still isn’t being dealt with?

Here are the full reveals, and individual card meanings will follow:

Card 1:

Sigil #58: Blinding Pessimism

If you have drawn this Sigil, it means that in this situation, your pessimism is blinding you to actual reality. There is a reason that we are pessimistic. We were not born pessimistic. It is a strategy we learn to adopt so as to minimize pain. It is a defense mechanism. This means if we are pessimistic in general, we have been very hurt in our lives and repetitively, and it is a guarantee that in those scenarios, that hurt came with crushing disappointment. It means that if you are pessimistic in this single situation, you are doing so to minimize pain, especially the potential of disappointment.

People use pessimism as a way to explain bad events in a stable and predictable way. We tend to think bad events are caused by us (controllable) and will definitely occur (predictable). Even though it is said that pessimism spreads helplessness, it is a strategy to try to avoid the painful helplessness of having a goal that you feel like you cannot attain, being excited only to be superbly disappointed, and hoping only to find your hope shattered into a thousand pieces.

Here is the thing: pessimism affects the way we act, or for that matter, the way we refuse to act. Optimists, who are not using optimism as an active form of denial, tend to pursue their goals persistently, leading them to build effective strategies and resources that enable them to achieve success. Optimists have a higher investment in their goals and much more perseverance with regards to attaining those goals. In other words, they are happy and healthy and successful not because of who they are, but because the way they see things causes them to act in ways that guarantee happiness, health, and success. Because of this, pessimism is associated with greater anxious and depressive symptoms, resignation, underachievement, and poor physical health.

Pessimists often confuse themselves for realists. But if you are pessimistic, you are not a realist. To see what is real, you have to see that reality is made of both negative and positive. Pessimistic people are much better at seeing the negative in life, but are blind to the positive. Optimists are better at seeing the positive in life, but if they are using optimism as an avoidance strategy, they are blind to the negative. This means you do not currently have a grasp on reality.

If you have drawn this Sigil, you are not looking at the negative reality in this situation; you are using negative mental distortion to protect yourself, and it is causing you to act (or not act) in ways that do not benefit you.

Ask yourself this question: “What would I do differently in this scenario if I knew I had very real reason to expect positive and expect the best?"

Card 2:

Sigil #72: Transcendental Escapism

If you have drawn this Sigil, what is preventing your progression is that you are using things of a spiritual nature or your higher intellect in order to escape and avoid the temporal. You have lost sight of the bigger picture, which includes both physical and non-physical. You are spirit but you are also body. You cannot die, but you will also most certainly die. To reject the physical and things related to the physical, you reject, deny, and disown part of yourself. In this situation, you are using the spiritual to negate the physical. And you are suffering and will suffer because of it.

If you have drawn this Sigil, you are in resistance to the physical and temporal, or potentially an aspect of it. The temporal world is a world of the purely physical. It is particles, body, color, shape, soma, physical health, the physical aspect of sex, money, house, place, things, the physical aspect of food, plants, people and pets, possessions, etc. It is the realm of the material. If you just read these words and felt yourself reject them, you just saw your resistance.

For thousands of years, the standard practice that people have taken is to disidentify from the parts of themselves that are unacceptable and identify with the parts that are. For example, a guru was a person who had decided to identify with only one part of himself or herself. He or she fed only that ego. For example, imagine a guru decides that the most acceptable part of himself (his concept of enlightened) is a person who is never angry, who instantly forgives, who has no worldly needs, who is in a state of pure positive focus.

Any time anger rises within him or a worldly need or a negative thought, he will deny, reject, suppress, and disown the part that is feeling that anger or need or negative thought. He will jump into the persona of the guru that he has created, and at first, he will deny those things and lie to himself and others that the way the guru self feels is entirely how he feels. He will not honor the truth or reality of any other part within him. He will do this until he literally loses awareness of any other part of him. He will mistake the guru part for all of who he is to the exclusion of all other parts within him.

This is his discipline. His ego is his “concept of who an enlightened being is.” He cannot admit to anything within him that is not that. It is the strongest attachment you can imagine. This is not a state of health, because it is not a state of integration. This is a state of selective identification.

Here are just some examples of scenarios in which you might draw this Sigil: when you have been hurt, but you don’t want to feel those messy, raw human feelings and so you practice emotional dis-identification to not feel them anymore and to disown your pain body. When you really need to find a way to make money, but you won't do it or resent doing it because you refuse to accept being part of the current financial system. When you have physical limits, but you will not admit to them because ‘mind over matter.’ When your understanding of philosophy paralyzes your capacity to go either direction in the physical because you can see both sides of every matter.

When you need to take physical action to bring something into manifestation in your life, but you believe visualization is enough. When you look at other people struggling with things you feel are ‘trivial, worldly concerns’ because you identify as being ‘beyond it all.’ When you would really benefit by going to a doctor, but you refuse to address physical ailments physically. When you refuse to have sex because you believe it is an unnecessary impulse and primitive instinct, or when you explain away abusive and unhealthy sexual behaviors with a spiritual justification for those behaviors. Or when the face you feel you have to present to the world, and may have even convinced yourself is your truth, is an enlightened and transcendental one.

This Sigil has come to remind you that you are using spiritual awareness or higher intellect as a form of resistance, escapism, and denial. And it is highly likely that the answer you seek for improvement lies squarely in the physical and in the embracing of the physical.
